A flue for a pellet stove is not a scaled down version of a wood stove chimney, but a discipline of its own: an 80 millimeter diameter, 316 stainless steel to withstand more acidic flue gases, and gas tight connections because the flue gas fan slightly pressurizes the pipe. We install the entire system in 1 working day, including draft measurement, a test fire and certification.

How does a pellet stove flue differ from a wood stove chimney?

Three things. The diameter: 80 millimeters compared to 150 to 180 for wood, because the fan actively pushes the flue gases outside. The material: pellet smoke condenses with higher acidity, making 316 stainless steel the only smart choice. Finally, the tightness: while a wood chimney operates on natural negative pressure, a pellet flue experiences slight positive pressure during startup, meaning every silicone ring and clamp counts. A single sloppy connection results in smoke smells indoors and error codes on the display.

That is exactly why we only install systems from 1 brand with certified seals, never a mix of loose parts. Anyone who used to own a wood stove has to shift their mindset: almost nothing from the old chimney can be reused.

How we install your pellet stove flue

1. Step 1: route and measurement

   Together, we determine the shortest safe route with a maximum of 2 bends, and measure the entire trajectory. Within 48 hours, you will have a fixed price on the table.

2. Step 2: installation with gas tight connections

   Every element is clicked into place and secured with its seal, passages receive their fire separation and the flue is anchored every 1.5 to 2 meters. Indoors, we work with protective covers, and we take all packaging material back with us afterwards.

3. Step 3: roof outlet according to regulations

   For new installations, the flue exits at least 1 meter above the roof ridge, featuring a rain cap that does not restrict the draft. This ensures you comply with Flemish regulations and spares the neighborhood from smoke nuisance, even on windless winter days.

4. Step 4: inspection, test fire and certification

   We measure the draft, let the stove run a full cycle and tune the combustion to the new flue. You immediately receive the certificate for your insurance and warranty.

The 3 routes and their prices

If you have a masonry chimney, an 80 millimeter liner via our chimney lining service is the cheapest route: 900 to 1,800 euros installed. Without an existing chimney, we install a twin wall flue along the facade or through the roof via our twin wall flue service, where pellet flues sit at the lower end of the 1,500 to 3,000 euro range due to their smaller diameter.

Common mistakes with pellet stove flues

The classic errors we fix on a daily basis: 150 millimeter wood chimney parts mixed with pellet flue components, 304 stainless steel that rusts from the inside out after a few years, routes with 3 or 4 bends where fine pellet ash accumulates, and connections sealed with caulk instead of assembled with the proper sealing rings.

Concentric: air and smoke in 1 pipe

A concentric flue discharges the flue gases through the inner pipe and simultaneously draws in fresh combustion air through the outer casing. This makes the appliance completely room independent: no cold air supply into the room, and no conflicts with your range hood or type D ventilation system.

For well insulated and passive homes, this is the standard setup we recommend, and many modern stoves are equipped for it by default. The additional cost compared to a traditional installation is usually limited to 200 to 400 euros, which you partially earn back through more stable combustion.

How much does a pellet flue installation cost?

Lining an existing chimney costs 900 to 1,800 euros, while a new twin wall trajectory costs 1,500 to 3,000 euros, both including passages, finishing, inspection and certification. Flue and stove in 1 working day

If you are installing a new appliance right away, we combine the flue and stove into a single job via our complete installation service: 1 team, 1 schedule, 1 warranty and a burning stove that same evening. Even for a stove replacement, we first inspect the existing flue, because a healthy pellet flue lasts 25 to 30 years and simply transfers over to the new appliance. This way, you pay for the flue 1 time and the stoves attached to it 2 times.

After installation: 1 chimney sweep per year

A pellet stove flue also requires annual sweeping, using the finer 80 millimeter brushes we carry by default with our sweeping service.
